It is standardized by ITU-T (Telecommunication

Standardization Sector of the International

Telecommunications Union).

Basic voice signal of frequency 0–4kHz is

converted using PCM into a 64kbit/s digital

binary signal.

Output of PCM is in binary form, so there will

be only two possible states high (bit 1) or low

(bit 0).

At the receivers end, the demodulation

process will revert the digital signal into

analog signal.
