With no external Gate voltage ( VGS = 0V ) and a small voltage
of VDS is applied between the Drain and the Source, constant CHAPTER 2
drain current will flow through the channel from the Drain to the

Source. This constant drain current is called maximum saturation
current (IDSS).

The VDS value at this point is called Pinch-off Voltage (VP).

As VDS increases further, ID remains at IDSS unless breakdown

occurs.
